Jermaine Jenas will not be part of the TNT Sports coverage of Brighton vs Man Utd tomorrow (Saturday, August 24). It follows his sacking by the BBC yesterday. However, my understanding is that he was not scheduled to appear for a few weeks anyway. A happy coincidence for TNT Sports and parent company Warner Bros. Discovery.
The former footballer was booted out of the Beeb whilst live on air on TalkSPORT radio yesterday. During a rather awkward interview on the station, Jermaine Jenas mostly reiterated he is talking to his lawyers about the situation. He was prominent on both The One Show and Match of the Day and looked set for a stellar media career. Indeed, it was likely he would replace Gary Lineker as the main MOTD host in the not-too-distant future. That is all up in the air, with allegations of inappropriate text messages swirling around.
Obviously, a company like Warner Bros. Discovery has to take any such allegation seriously and be seen to be doing so. Whatever he has done or is meant to have done, we are set for at least a few weeks of football coverage without Jermaine Jenas.
