Like most of the UK, I’ve become increasingly horrified and angry as more details about Henry Nowak’s murder have emerged. Police policy has, quite rightly, been in the spotlight as a result.
While there are undoubtedly good, diligent officers, surely the media should also be questioning the basic intelligence and competence of some of those joining the service? The words “I don’t think you have mate”, said by a copper to the stricken Nowak, who managed to warn he had been stabbed and plead for help, should ring in the ear of anyone involved in recruitment.
We in the media must never let them be forgotten.
