Jill Dando was a British television presenting icon. With more than a passing resemblance to Princess Diana, she was a hugely popular public figure, leading programmes such as the BBC’s Crimewatch. In April 1999, she was murdered outside her home by a single shot to the head. In broad daylight.
Barry George spent eight years in prison for the killing before his conviction was quashed. Ultimately, the murderer or murderers have never been found. Not surprisingly, the show attracted some attention ahead of its release this week. As the Mirror reported, Dando’s brother and friends have publicly commented that they hope that the series will help reignite interest in the case and maybe, finally, bring the killer to justice.
