Jill Dando was a British television presenting icon. With more than a passing resemblance to Princess Diana, she was a hugely popular public figure, leading programmes such as the BBC’s Crimewatch. In April 1999, she was murdered outside her home by a single shot to the head. In broad daylight.
Barry George spent eight years in prison for the killing before his conviction was quashed. Ultimately, the murderer or murderers have never been found. Netflix is now set to run a three-part series looking into one of Britain’s most high-profile unsolved murders. Key figures like George and the presenter’s brother Nigel feature.
The streamer has released a trailer for the series:
Not surprisingly, the show is already attracting some attention. As the Mirror reported, Dando’s brother and friends have publicly commented that they hope that the series will help reignite interest in the case and maybe, finally, bring the killer to justice.
“Who Killed Jill Dando?” will debut on Netflix on September 26. If the trailer is anything to go by, it looks like it will make for compelling viewing.
