Warner Bros. has released a trailer for the movie “One Life”. The feature tells the story of Sir Nicholas Winton. A stockbroker in London, a visit to Prague enlightened him about the conditions Jewish refugees from the Nazis were living in. He also realised these children needed to flee before the Nazis took power in what was then Czechoslovakia.
Sir Nicholas organised trains to London and saved hundreds of children before war broke out. However, the film depicts him as haunted by the lives he could not save. Here is the trailer:
The turning point is an appearance on the BBC programme “This Life”. There, Sir Nicholas meets some of the children he saved. The trailer ends on that famous moment in UK television. However, if you want to see what happened, it is below and deeply moving.
Sir Nicholas Winton died in 2015 aged 106. I’m sure the film “One Life”, which describes itself as “based on a true story”, takes some artistic license. However, it is good to have the story further documented.
The cast is star-studded. Johnny Flynn stars as the young stockbroker while Sir Anthony Hopkins takes on the role of Sir Nicholas Winton in his older years. His mother, Babette, is played by Helena Bonham Carter. His wife, Grete, is played by Lena Olin. Samantha Spiro portrays Presenter Dame Esther Rantzen.
“One Life” is one of the main gala screenings at the upcoming BFI London Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It will be in cinemas from January 1, 2024. No confirmation yet of which streaming platform(s) it will appear on. Given it is a Warner Bros. movie Max is a decent guess.
