Staff both there and at the Washington Post, where he was supposed to become executive editor, have now been told of the development. It comes after days (weeks?) of speculation and allegations against him and new WaPo publisher/CEO Will Lewis relating to the phone hacking scandal and other ethical issues. Both men deny wrongdoing, but Winnett’s position seems to have become untenable.
