We are a week into the Andy Burnham premiership and his ministerial team is (just about) in place. Perhaps the biggest shock was when he appointed John Healey as chancellor last week.
It was a shock because nobody in Westminster media had considered the former defence secretary for the role, despite his previous experience in the Treasury. The whole narrative coming from the lobby press was Ed Miliband vs Shabana Mahmood.
A really bad miss there, and a bit of an indictment of the system, which is, frankly, a bit of a closed shop.
