There has been some fantastic European football across TNT Sports over the last three nights. Sadly, much of it has been interrupted, even ruined, by commentators and presenters repeatedly telling us about the channels’ “new streaming home on HBO Max“.
Thanks, Darren Fletcher, WE KNOW. Anyone who has watched TNT Sports for five minutes knows. If I hear the phrase “wall-to-wall Westeros” or see a plug for The Pitt one more time I’m going to scream.
Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich was gripping. The interjections at key points in the game were infuriating.
This irritation is not just in-game either. There are commercials for the same service during the ad breaks, too. I get it. The broadcaster needs to direct people to the right place. But constantly? Surely not.
Perhaps the marketing department will be pleased. As in politics, if close watchers have seen a message enough to be irritated by, “normals” might actually have noticed. It is undoubtedly driving fans mad, though.
TNT Sports on HBO Max
HBO Max itself is a rather frustrating experience, particularly when it comes to finding the actual TNT Sports coverage and schedule. Existing Sky/NOW customers have access to HBO Max… apart from the sport, for which they need to upgrade their account. Also, if you already subscribe to both TNT Sports and Sky/Now already, you get a load of the content in both places.
TNT Sports customers can log into HBO Max with those same credentials and watch all the games, though. And you still have access to the nonsense on Discovery+. Are you following along?
Hopefully, as time goes on the painful HBO Max plugs will settle down. For now, though, I suspect we’re all going to have to endure it a bit more. Tomorrow lunchtime, Arsenal vs Bournemouth is on TNT Sports. We can look forward to more tiresome plugs accompanying Mikel Arteta’s side’s tiresome style of play. No doubt the HBO Max reminders will interrupt the game once again.
