The BBC World Service’s Woes

International radio station the BBC World Service is often cited as one of the key achievements of the corporation, a demonstration of something that it alone can do and a good use of the Licence Fee. Many people can recall following major events when abroad thanks to it. Yet it is under growing financial strain.

And now the boss has quit.

Liliane Landor announced this week that she is standing down as senior controller of BBC News International Services and BBC World Service director. She will leave in July after three years in the job. You can read the full memo she sent to her colleagues here.
