The rugby Six Nations has kicked off this weekend. Games will be split across ITV and the BBC, with Premier Sports also involved for the first time, per Sports Pro. ITV, which has the rights to all England games, is making some changes to its coverage. It will have adverts on a split screen during the game. Before one scrum each half, the game coverage will continue, with the sound slightly down, on the left. A 20-second ad will be shown on the right
Cue moaning online.
We will have to see how it plays out in reality, but I’m not hugely offended by the development. Yes, this may be the start of a slippery slope, but we’re currently talking about 40 seconds of advertising across an 80-minute game. It’s also at a point, where, let’s be honest, there is a lot of faffing and not much action. I find cuts to the crowd whilst the ball is in play during football matches far more frustrating.
