Sir Keir Starmer has committed one final U-turn in his political career. The former prime minister announced today that he is stepping away from Parliament. Credit where it is due, though. Sir Keir spoke to his Holborn and St Pancras constituency’s local paper first. The Camden New Journal got the scoop ahead of any national outlet. That is unlucky to provide much succour to Andy Burnham, whose first House of Commons appearance as prime minister was somewhat overshadowed by the news.
