The Celebrity Traitors final has finished, with Alan Carr coming out on top. As he was a traitor, and the last one remaining, he took all of the money. A total of £87,500 will go to his chose charity. It was just a brilliant, dramatic ending to what has been a fantastic show.
Carr’s victory was a suitable climax for a season in which the faithful have been totally hopeless from start to finish, only managing to catch one traitor before the finale. The comedian’s personality, and the other players’ preconceptions of him, saw him through, despite numerous slip-ups. The key moment that swung it for him was when, unexpectedly, the final four turned on Joe Marler. The former rugby star had positioned himself as a hunter, but it wasn’t enough. I gasped as the boards with his name went up. I did the same when the remaining three turned the pit green, ending the game. I though Carr had gone to early and should have asked for another banishment. However, David Olusoga and Nick Mohammed, the remaining faithful, made their last, fatal mistake, agreeing to close things too.
Drama to the last. You could practically see host Claudia Winkelman grinning as she realised what had happened and what great TV it would make.
The Celebrity Traitors Final Provides Chaotic Last Mission
Before that, we had had another mission. These ridiculous tasks have been the highlight of the series. The celebs threw themselves into whatever they were set, and the entire group come together, making it all great fun to watch. The mission in The Celebrity Traitors Final, which saw the last five contestants hurtling up and down a moving train filled with explosives just felt right after all that had gone before.
What everyone cared about though was the roundtable and end game. I actually thought that traitors Cat Burns and Carr were set to go all way, but the others finally managed to pick-off the pop singer. Doing that sealed Marler’s fate too, though. His vote and apology for it made the other suspicious of him. He couldn’t hide his competitive nature and it ultimately unnerved Mohamed, the key vote. The key takeaway – don’t trust alliances to stand.
As I said in today’s newsletter, The Celebrity Traitors has been far better than I thought it would be. Camp, chaotic and funny. We will never forget Celia Imrie farting ina shed. When the viewing figures come out for the last episode, they will likely be enormous. We will get another season of it. The next civilian version of the show will take place next year. It will have a lot to live up to.
