Discussing Apple TV+ and Sports Streaming on ‘MacVoices’

2022 was a big year for streaming and plenty will be going on in 2023 too. (Obviously, sign-up for The Addition newsletter and read updates on this blog to keep on top of it all!) I had the pleasure of joining Chuck Joiner on ‘MacVoices’ for an in-depth discussion on the state of streaming, including Apple TV+, and looking at what is next for sports in that space, amongst other things. (N.b. We recorded the conversation shortly before the deal between Google and the NFL for Sunday Ticket was officially confirmed. For a long time it was thought Apple would buy these rights.)

It is inevitable that more sports coverage will move away from traditional broadcasters onto streaming services. Amazon Prime Video has somewhat led the way, at least in the UK. They even showed the 10 Boxing Day Premier League games this year – a key date in the football calendar and a very prestigious set of rights to have. Apple TV+ is, in typical Apple fashion, making its way more slowly, while Netflix is trying to pretend it isn’t interested at all. We’ll see…
