The BBC has landed a new deal to provide radio commentary, TV highlights and digital clips for The Open. The arrangement runs from now until the 2027. This year’s tournament is underway at a rather blustery looking Royal Portrush.

BBC Coverage of The Open will be made up of commentary and analysis on BBC Radio 5Live/BBC Sounds, with digital clips and highlights appearing on TV and on the BBC Sport website. The commentary is led by golf correspondent Iain Carter, with Mark Chapman and Colin Murray leading the broader coverage. Furthermore, Sarah Mulkerrins and Rishi Persad are leading the TV team, with Andrew Cotter and Ken Brown amongst the commentary team.

Commenting on the deal, Alex Kay-Jelski, Director of BBC Sport, said:

This is a fantastic deal that ensures audiences can continue to enjoy the very best of The Open across BBC Sport. It’s an iconic moment in the sporting calendar, and BBC Sport will bring the drama and stories to life on TV, iPlayer, Radio 5 Live, BBC Sounds and online.

Mark Darbon, Chief Executive of The R&A, the organisation in charge of the tournament said:

Extending our long-standing partnership with BBC Sport is incredibly important in ensuring that the drama and excitement of these historic championships will continue to be enjoyed by millions of viewers throughout the UK. The Open sits at the heart of the great British sporting summer and the BBC’s extensive radio, television and digital coverage will mean that the compelling stories from the Championship are shared with existing fans as well as inspiring new ones.

You can watch The Open live on Sky Sports/Now TV in the UK and on Peacock in the US.
